Connections through Proxies and Authenticating Firewalls

Connections through Proxies/Firewalls/Antivirus

The Online Trader supports regular HTTP or HTTPS proxies, and authenticating HTTPS/SSL and SOCKS5 proxies. In Windows, the Internet Explorer settings are used.

The Online Trader will automatically try to detect your PC's proxy settings. In some cases this is not possible. To manually enter proxy settings, start The Online Trader and select Tools | Setup | Proxy from the main menu. If a direct connection (no proxy) is not possible, then The Online Trader must use the same settings as your web browser. Depending on what type of browser you use the proxy information can be found by under:

Microsoft Internet Explorer

For Internet Explorer the settings can be found in the Options dialog (see Tools | Internet Options, Connections tab and press the "LAN Settings" button).

Opera

For Opera the settings can be found under Tools| Preferences | Advanced | Proxy servers.

Netscape

For Netscape the settings can be found under Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Proxies.

Personal firewall

If this does not work, please check your local firewall settings. Some personal firewalls are poorly designed and might unintentionally limit Internet usage more efficiently than the user bargained for. Feel free to contact your personal firewall vendor for additional support.

Norton Internet Security

If you are using Norton please do the following changes in order to get The Online Trader to work properly:

  • 1. Open Norton Internet Security
  • 2. Select "Status | Settings"
  • 3. Select "Personal firewall"
  • 4. Click on "Configure"
  • 5. A new window opens. Please select the tab "Programmes"
  • 6. In the list you will find "Ontrade" or "The Online Trader - Set this to "Allow all".
  • 7. Restart The Online Trader and it should work
